As we are approaching another election cycle, I think it is time we start asking ourselves how we as a people can better educate ourselves on the issues and the candidates running for office in our communities.
One option that has always been of interest to me is that of political debate. Is our community interested in seeing a debate from our candidates? If so then what kind of debate, are we interested in? Would you like to see a good old' Lincoln Douglas or perhaps the town-hall style that is becoming more and more popular?
Let us know!
Take the poll, and post why you feel that way... poll will close in ten days from 3-27-06 |

| I like the idea of using prepared questions and a moderator so the candidates aren't caught completely off-guard, so they'll have some prep time to formulate thoughtful responses, and so the moderator can maintain some semblance of order. OTOH, having some way to invite unrehearsed questions from the audience would give us a chance to see how the candidates think on their feet (and possibly under some pressure!). |

| Second what Bill said. Best answers (and solutions) are the ones that have had time for thought. But sometimes in life we don't have that time so we need someone who can fire from the hip effectively. |

I think the million doll or question would be how many candidates would participate. Coming from a very political lot myself I can't for the life of me understand why so many local politicians 'act' like they HATE the election cycle. |

I think a public debate is a great idea. We need more political participation by "the people" and I think a debate that would also allow citizens to ask questions would be a good way of stimulating people's interests and help get them involved.
Too many of us feel disconnected from our representatives in the county because we (1) do not know what their platforms are and (2) have no real way of getting to know them outside of business hours when many of the constituents are at work.
I for one would love to know what a candidate actually stands for, what they think are the real problems in the county, and how they intend to address them BEFORE I vote for them! |

| Total Votes : 10 ? Hmm... we need more people here, or the voting was closed too early ? |

I agree, more votes means we better represent the folks. Hey invite anyone you know who has strong views. |
